AVIVA makes a linkSponsors

For the second year running, a team of staff from Aviva – the worldwide insurance group – spent a day getting their hands dirty improving the communal garden at De Crespigny Park, an MST supported house in Lambeth.

A strong team of staff from Aviva left their offices behind and rolled up their sleeves to build a small allotment on the garden of the scheme on May 6. The staff’s enthusiasm was again unstoppable and everybody worked really hard on the day.

This kind of events provides a valuable link between businesses and the community. Tony Russell, Senior Support Officer, who co-ordinated this opportunity, has a clear idea of what the advantages are for this type of matches. “We really appreciate Aviva’s donation of time, effort and materials - they donated 500lb of compost and assorted seeds. Their input certainly has made a difference to our service users’ lives.”

Aviva encourages and enables their staff to take part in volunteering opportunities each year. After a very successful day re-vamping the garden of the scheme last year, they decided to come back again in the spring. “We felt challenged and we wanted to complete the job, as we have prepared the soil for growing vegetables and herbs back in September. Now, in May, we met the service users who told us where they wanted the plants in the garden. We felt great and rewarded at the end of the day”, said Lucia Upadhyaya, Aviva employee.
