“I’m not talking to myself as much. I feel better. I’m quite pleased.”

How did you come to be here?

I became a resident in January 2008, so I’ve been here over a year. I used to live with my mum and dad. I was on my own for about 18 months – I was working, I had a job. Then I wasn’t so well and my Community Psychiatric Nurse (CPN) got me a place here.

What do you think of the service you receive?

It’s brilliant. They show me how to cook food, all kinds of things. I’m a lot better than I was. I’m not talking to myself as much. I feel better. I’m quite pleased.

We have a meeting once a month as a group. I’m friends with everybody here and we all get along. I go to the gym when I get a bit of spare time. Me and my mate go on a Wednesday, so I’ve made a friend there. The communal areas and meetings have helped. The support is very good.

I’m now working at Taskgroup (industrial therapy work). It’s all woodwork. Making bird tables, pallets, sticks for the bonfire. All kinds of things. I just do two days a week. It’s therapeutic. It does me good.

The single best thing about living here is it’s sort of independent, I feel independent now. But I'm not ready to move on just yet. When my CPN thinks I’m ready, then it’ll be OK.

What’s next?

Well, after I’ve been here over two years they’ll find me somewhere else to live. My mate got a bungalow – so I’m looking forward to that (laughs)! Hopefully I’ll be better prepared.
