European Neighbours’ Day celebrated in Bounds Green, north London
On 27 May, Passmore Edwards House sheltered housing scheme for the elderly held an open day to celebrate European Neighbours’ Day – a Europe-wide initiative that aims to bring communities together and create better neighbourhoods.
Local residents and staff from local organisations were welcomed by staff and service users for an informative and fun-filled day. Light refreshments were served all day along with a range of activities, games and competitions. And a range of information was available on sheltered housing, local amenities and the work of MST’s Care and Repair unit
Passmore Edwards House residents took an active part by chatting to all who attended. Jim Bowers led guided tours of the scheme (and showed his flat!) and Marie Luzzi expertly called bingo.
The day extended Passmore Edwards House other work with the local community. This includes an intergenerational project, where residents at the scheme and local junior school children regularly work together on joint projects.
“This has been a real community day; the service users have enjoyed making new friends; several people have shown great interest in moving into sheltered housing and attending our social activities. We are building a safer friendlier neighbourhood.”
